Set-up
From the hotel to Garrett Hall
Guest will be staying at the Doyle Hotel. They can take the trolley (free) and get off at the UVA Chapel stop. Here is a link to the live-tracking of the trolley.
Note:
- Google maps will also offer public transportation information
- all buses (UVAs and Charlottesville’s) are free and anyone can use them.
- Alternatively, guest can use uber or any ride sharing app (about 8-10 min)
- Guest can also walk (24 min)
Parking
If any guest want to park they should go to the parking garage that’s next to the UVA bookstore. The name is “Central Grounds Garage” and is easily findable through google maps. Once there they’ll use the app parkmobile to pay for parking.
Arriving at Garrett Hall
Guest will come straight to Garrett Hall. Garrett Hall is the name of the building of the Batten school and is in front of an outside amphitheater.


Once inside the conference is right on the “main hall” which is call “The Great Hall”, and is on the floor of when one comes in, right across from the main doors. There will be a table in the lobby for checkin people with in badges. Jimmy (predoc) and a graduate student (name) will be there helping with check in.
- If there is any issues with the badges please let Andrea Henry or Sean Flattery.

Setting up the conference

- There will be a podium with a laptop.
- The presentations can be send to an email, and someone can access them through their emails.
- If no one has sign in into the laptop someone should sign in. Anyone with a UVA account (here Jimmy can help or a graduate student).
- Once logged in, people can also use an USB-drive to put their presentations on the laptop.
Christoph maybe bring a usb-drive? - One could also access them through dropbox as well.
- If people asks for bathrooms they are downstairs on the basement level floor.
- There is also a water filler, so people who bring their water bottles can refill their water bottles there.
Seating
- Anyone can sit wherever
- There should be plugs on the floor, hiding by metal doors. Not every seat has direct access to them.
Breakfast Friday
- The food should be set-up by the time guest arrive. Andrea or Sean would be the contact person if the food doesn’t arrive.

- Menu:
- Pico Burrito (Scrambled Egg, Cheddar, Potato, Pico de Gallo) — 1 per person
- Plant-Based Chorizo Breakfast Tacos — 2 per person
- 1 gallon Green Berries Fair Trade Coffee
- 5 fruit platters
- 1 dozen assorted muffins
- Orange Juice
- The idea is that people get their own food and talk amongst themselves.
- There are extra napkins, and plates on the “kitchen” room downstairs.
Start of conference
- At this point, Christoph would gather people, offer the welcome remarks and they give the space to Molly to offer the first keynote.
- The rest of the day should hopefully go smooth. Some notes:
- People can wonder around, that’s totally fine. As a reminder bathrooms are downstairs, water fountains are downstairs.
- If anyone needs a “private” space for calls or pumping, they can use my office, which is 101 (it doesn’t have my name because I’m on leave). If its locked the person on the desk should have the key. I’ll try to leave it unlocked.
- Internet: they can use eduroam or UVA guest wifi
- Any issues during the conference: Jimmy or Graduate student can help either calling people or helping with set-up.
- If I’m not there, would be great if someone can take pics for documentation!
Ending the conference on Friday
- Once the last presentation has happened. It will be around 5:30pm. From then on people can feel free to talk to the space where the dinner will be “The Rotunda”. You can use google maps, but directions are:
- Coming on of Garrett Hall take a left and keep walking until you see a lawn (should be like a 1 min walk) with a big dome building, that’s the rotunda.
- Head towards the dome building, and enter through any of the levels: basement level or main level. There should be someone there and ask where the conference is, they should point you to the highest floor.
- There are stairs or elevator to get there.
- VA Catering should have set-up by then, and people can have drinks.

Saturday
- For Saturday, hopefully all details have been covered by then, and it will mostly be repetitive.
- Clean-up, to the extend possible, we should leave the room how we found it. There are big dumpsters behind Garrett Hall if needed. Jimmy and/or graduate student can help with this.
